Wings Go Up 1-0

Posted by Joe | Labels: , , , , , | Posted On Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 9:40 AM

The crowd was loud, the octopus was flying, and the Wings went up 1-0 in the Stanley Cup Finals with a 3-1 victory over the Pens at Joe Louis Arena.

Once again Chris Osgood was the star of the show, stopping 31 of 32 shots, including a great save on a break-away.

Johan Franzen scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period  helping the defending champions get that important first blood.

Franzen and Brad Stuart had goals that bounced off Fleury, who sat on a shot that trickled in for Detroit’s series-clinching goal last year.

Don’t get to excited Wings fans…..We have another game in less then 24 hrs, and I don’t think the Pens are going to go down to easy….

Jackson Solid Again, Tigers get Split VS O's

Posted by Joe | Labels: , , , | Posted On at 9:34 AM

Edwin Jackson has been nails so far for the Tigers. Picking up his 5th win of the season already, Jackson has done nothin but impress in Detroit so far this season.

Even more impressive is Jackson’s 2.30 ERA, 57 k’s to only 18 walks. Did I mention I’m lovin this rotation??

Jackson (5-3) retired the first 11 hitters he faced before Nick Markakis shot an opposite-field single to left in the fourth, and the Orioles didn’t get another hit until Ty Wigginton led off the eighth with a ground-rule double to right-center. The only other baserunner Jackson allowed was a one-out, sixth-inning walk to Robert Andino, who was caught stealing by catcher Gerald Laird. Jackson matched a season high with seven strikeouts, finished May with a 4-2 record and notched his eighth quality start in 11 tries.

Now the Tigers get an off day before starting a home stand that begins Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox.

Now it’s time to take a breath, grab a cold beer and get ready for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup…..Whooo what a day!!

Red Wings Go For Back To Back, Osgood Deserves Praise

Posted by Joe | Labels: , , , , , | Posted On Friday, May 29, 2009 at 6:17 PM

Wow. A year after winning the Stanley Cup it's deja vu all over again. Wings vs. Pens.  And just like last year it's NBC, VS, and CBC pulling out there  Sidney Crosby jerseys and hatin on Detroit.

Just the way we like it here in Motown.

Chris Osgood has got to be one of the best goalies in Detroit history, if not in  NHL history.. So many people still rip on this guy and I can't figure out why!?!!  He's no Patrick Roy, He's not that good.....he has good defense in front of him so it makes him look better....are you people NUTS??

Those statements are just as dumb as these wanabes who say, "It's the system, not the player."  If so why are Denver Broncos fans still looking for a Super Bowl post- John Elway- if it's "the system?"

Osgood is a definate hall of famer. He is closing in on 400 wins, a possible 4th Stanley Cup, and has a career GAA of 2.47.  Come On!!! Your in in my book Chris!!

The series starts Saturday night in Detroit with Game 2  on Sunday. It is the first time finals games will be played on consecutive days since 1955. And to think, a few days earlier the talk was how the NHL foolishly planned to have eight days off between the conference finals and the championship round. That's NUTS!!!!

LET'S GO RED WINGS!!!!

So underated, Osgood looks to make history.

Porcello Real Deal, Tigers take 2 of 3 From K.C.

Posted by Joe | Labels: , , , , , , | Posted On Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 6:02 PM

Not even legal drinking age yet, and Rick Porcello is making a name for himself early in his MLB carrer. Porcello won his 5th straight decision today as the Tigers pounded K.C. 8-3, and more importantly winning the series and now have a four game lead in the AL Central.

Porcello (6-3) allowed two runs and four hits in six innings. He lost three of his first four starts. But in his last five games, he's allowed five runs and struck out 20 while beating Minnesota, Cleveland, Oakland, Colorado and Kansas City.  That's pretty damn impressive I must say!

Man I am lovin this team. Verlander, Jackson, Porcello, and even flashes of D-Train coming around. That would be huge if Dontrelle keeps it up! Gallaraga has been struggiling of late, but I love this rotation.

Now it's on to Baltimore. They are always tough. I miss the ol AL East.

Memo to Mo......

Posted by Joe | Labels: , , , , , , , | Posted On at 5:39 PM

Oh boy. You can't have a playoff series without the good ol "I guarantee we will win the series" shootin out of someones mouth at the wrong time. Way to sink your team Mo.

But its ok. I'm here to help. Here's some simple steps to remember next year.

1.First off, when you make these bold guarantees you have to have at least 5 good players on your team.....you guys have one great player and......??

2.Don't try to go Rasheed Wallace on us....(I love Sheed). When you say it, you have to DO IT!!!

3. Don't give up yet. Just like a powerplay in hockey, you guys always have a 6 on 5 when you have the ball, having the ref right there to blow the whistle everytime someone looks at LeBron!!

4. ABC/ESPN loves the Cavs so much maybe you can do some sideline reporting for them in the Finals.

Even if the Cavs win tomorrow, they can't beat Orlando 3 straight. And after getting rail-roaded by Pat Riley and the Miami Heat brass, how sweet it will be for Stan Van Gundy to take the OTHER florida team to the NBA Finals.

Say it LOUD Stan!!!  Orlando wasn't even on the NBA map a couple years back. NBA Coach of the year!?!

Verlander, Tigers Stay Hot

Posted by Joe | Labels: , , , , | Posted On Monday, May 25, 2009 at 7:01 PM

We are one week from June, and I'm sky high on my Tigers.  Justin Verlander had another outstanding game as the Tigers pounded K.C. 13-1, and now we are 4 games up.

Verlander (5-2), is 5-0 with a 0.85 ERA in his last six starts!!! He retired the first nine batters and gave up only five singles and did not allow a runner past second base. He's now  the leader in strikeouts with 85, with 8 punchouts coming today. This guy is on fire.

This team seems to have the mojo this year, and if Dontrelle Willis is back, he really could be an x-factor down the stretch.

Mr. clutch so far this year Brandon Inge was 3 for 6, and just another day at the office for Miggy going 4 for 6, driving in 3 runs and keeping that avg. near .400!!!

Memorial Day

Posted by Joe | Labels: , , , , , , | Posted On at 6:45 PM

Memorial Day is a great time to spend with friends and family, back yard BBQ, cold beer and a good baseball game on the radio.

In my opinion you really can't get much more American then that.

But I hope people really never forget why we get this Monday off  every year in May. People who have sacraficed EVERYTHING for us, and their belief that we are a nation that is, and always will be free. So while you are having a great time today with your friends and family, please remember the real heros of this country.

GOD BLESS AMERICA.....

Goodbye Cavs...

We all know LeBron is one of the best players in the NBA. Period. So we can't even debate that. But GIVING, thats right, I said GIVING Mike Brown the NBA coach of the year was a joke.

Coach of the year?  Lets get real. I could coach this team. It's ALL LeBron James, and their lack of depth is going to get them knocked out of the Eastern Conference Finals. They can't beat Orlando, because Orlando is the better TEAM.

If LeBron couldn't play in game 4 they would probaly lose by 30!!  If James doesn't make a miracle shot in game 2 to win it, the Cavs would be on there way to getting swept.

Well Mr. Brown better be burnin the midnight oil, or in a week the Cavs will be on summer vacation. ASt least we know the Refs want the Cavs to win. Seriously!!! I'm not a big Magic fan, but if I was all I could do is scream!! That block Dwight Howard made on LeBron was awesome, and it was all ball, but the ref quickly remembered that it has to be LeBron vs. Kobe.....I mean Cleveland vs. L.A. so it's time to blow thw the whistle.   GEEEZZZZ Come on!!!

But I'm tired of hearing about what the Cavs didn't do. Give some credit to the Magic and talk about what they DID do. Played good defense, shot the ball well for the third straight game, and did most off all what they always seem to do, beat the Cavs.

The Coach of the year is coaching in this series, on the Orlando sideline. Stan Van Gundy has done a great job this season with the Magic and deserves a ton of credit. The Magic's starting five  and bench are definitely dominating this series and the Cavs look like they don't have a clue.

Don't worry Cleveland, LeBron will get his NBA Championship rings in his carrer, when he is on Detroit.....or the Knicks, or Celtics...
