Michael Jackson

I can't  say I was a huge Michael  Jackson fan.  I was always a rock n roll type of guy.  But after his death, I wish I was a bigger fan.

Of Michael Jackson the person, not the singer.

Talk about someone who led a tough life. Really this guy had it bad, I'm not tryin to be sarcastic. I'm serious. I know he had fame and fortune, anything money could buy. He was The KING OF POP.

He could have the hottest women, biggest house, the fastest cars. Anything.  But to me it seems he never got what he really wanted. An ordinary life. There was no childhood for Michael. He went straight from the womb to stardom. It really seemed like he did.

Michael began his musical career at the age of 5, ( 5 mind you, as in just  kindergarten age!!) as the lead singer of the Jackson 5 who formed in 1964. In these early years the Jackson 5, Jackie, Jermaine, Tito, Marlon and lead singer Michael played local clubs and bars in Gary Indiana and moving further  as there talents grew and they could compete in bigger competitions.

From these early days Michael would be at the same clubs as big talented stars of there days, such as Jackie Wilson and would be learning from them even back then. In 1968 the Bobby Taylor and The Vancouvers discovered the Jackson five and from there they got an audition for Berry Gordy of  Motown Records. The Jackson 5 signed for Motown and moved to California. Their first 4 singles, "I Want You Back", "ABC", "The Love You Save", and "I'll Be There" all made US No1 hits. The Jackson 5 recorded 14 albums and Michael recorded 4 solo albums with Motown.

And of course after that came the Solo years for Michael, which were even more successful.  But for all the fame and fortune the fact of not having a "normal" childhood must have played heavy on Jackson. He did strange and crazy things, but were they really all that crazy? Most of them seemed pretty normal when you look back at them now. Look back at them and realize that Michael had no childhood. He didn't run around and play baseball, or tag. He sang and danced, and he did it well. But at what price?

Could you picture yourself being thrust into the spotlight at age 5, and never have a moments peace? EVER?? 5?!? Most of us can't remember anything we did when we were 5. I know I can't.  He was the modern Elvis. He had to actually put on costumes just to go shopping.  Could you imagine?

I think Michael lived and acted like a kid because he was always a kid at heart, and he missed out on the best and most fun years of his life because he was to busy. Busy entertaining us.
